Sea Ray Fiberglass Repair
This is a typical fiberglass repair. This boat ran into the dock. The damage does not look that bad but if you look on the inside, you’ll see that the Bulkhead was smashed. I removed a section of the bulkhead, laid fiberglass on the inside and then on the outside.
I checked with other sites on the Internet on how they would do a repair like this. Some of them say that they use Epoxy, the strongest material around. There are some sites that have photos of using epoxy but I don’t see any fiberglass material being used. Using straight epoxy with a thickener additive and no fiberglass is the wrong way. You have to use a woven or non-woven fiberglass for the area to be strong like it was the day it left the factory. Also this hull has Horizontal, Vertical, Concave and Convex shapes.
This is the most difficult part of the job. If it is not done right then you’ll see where the repair was done. If you see crooked lines that don’t flow with the hull, then you know your working with an inexperience repair guy. Check out the photos of how I did this repair and see how straight I got the lines. Also you don’t see any waves when you look from the side.
